Mersin İdmanyurdu took place in Group B in Second League 1988–89 Season. League played in three groups one with 17 teams and two with 18. Bottom four teams relegated to Third League, whereas top team promoted to First League at the end of the season[1]. However Group B winner was the second team of Bursaspor whose first team was in First League and took place among the relegated teams. Therefore no promotion occurred. After that season TFF decided that only one team from each group can take place in professional leagues. MİY finished 3rd with 16 wins and 43 goals.
